These sets are perfect for a tiered tray. 
Most of the wording is separate so you can easily paint each piece a different color. 
Pieces are made of 1/8" Birch. You can expect some dark edges or char marks- you can easily sand them away or paint over them- this is NOT a defect and will not be replaced. 
Rubbing alcohol on a washcloth works well to remove any marks.
